This is an ordinary usual application like all foreign investment I believe...therefore no such thing as hiding behind or cover up.....the government will know what to do if indeed it is not good for the health of the people and the PM has said it that the health of the people cannot be compromise...his words are trustworthy and not like what Anwar promises....that I say he is a more honorable man and keep with his words spoken out...
So long as Lynas comply with the requirement in respect of treating the waste to a level which is international accepted it is a good project which can help the country with its GDP growth....the 12 years free tax etc is an incentive for them to bring in the investment and I say it is still acceptable as 12 years later it will bring in a lots of taxes to the coffer of the government....it also give employment as well and all this is what the country needs to create income for its people....let’s wait for the report and we judge from there...if indeed poisonous then they need to comply with the international acceptance in respect of waste etc...otherwise NO LICENSE to operate and the whole investment is gone to waste....the government then is not blame for their failure to get the operating license and their lose which will affect the country's image if it is exploited ....LOOK AT IT FROM THIS ANGLE not from the angle of hatred and revenge which PR is doing...
There are conditions attached where if they don't comply they cannot get the license to operate....this is the trump card of the government...without the license the whole set up is useless ....hold on to this and let them comply ....I agree the government cannot rule with the iron hand and must be seen reasonable to investors.

Rare earth concentrates pose serious public health risk. US/Japan refuse to refine any rare earth concentrates for fear of affecting the quality of life of the citizens. Both US/Japan wanted for their Green Tech. industries , the refined rare earth without radioactive thourium waste which can bring centuries of misery and sufferings to the affected victims.The Lynas LAMP will affect other FDI as other investors will not like its workers becoming the victims of radioactivity. The operation of this plant in Gebeng ,is a public concern > a negative impact to other genuine FDI. The inception of Lynas is a sad chapter in Malaysian FDI contraversal.. It will a case of the devil and the deep blue sea.

ReplyDeleteAccording to aelb today there's no such "accumulation" of radioactive. 2, the residue will be turned into raw materials for other usage such as in road construction.
ReplyDeleteMany do not know the moment thorium is extracted, its of small dose, it's radiated to environment straight away. No accumulation. The level of exposure to the public is 0.002, very minimal, as min as the surrounding naturally emitted radioactive. Comparing to taking a flight the exposure is even lesser than that. ight away. No accumulation. This call natural radiation level. By standard it is not harmful.
And very important this is not a nuclear plant but its a rare earth plant to process the metal. So there is no radiation because it is not a nuclear plant. Country like Aust, China, Brazil and India has done it successfully. Then what minimal impact it has on health and well being.
Fyi, thorium has a long half life of 14 billions years. The longer the half life of the radioactive, the least is it's radioactivity. LYNAS is not a nuclear reactor plant but a Rare earth metals refinery plants to extract the Rare earth. The thorium nuclear reactor plant in India has show zero reading of radioactivity in it's plant
However many use the longevity of thorium to scare public and spin this issue out of context. The lies that has been spread is damaging. Many of you doesn't know the facts and had been used to front this baseless struggle.
Its a spinning lies, do not be caught in it.
